Android Studio essentials
Find the important project files and build your app.
Know where the files live
The app module holds your Android application. Source files usually live under src/main/java or src/main/kotlin, layouts under res/layout, and permissions and components in AndroidManifest.xml.
Gradle configures the build
Add a dependency to the app module’s existing dependencies block, then sync. A dependency snippet is not a replacement for the entire build file.
Run a debuggable build
Select a device or emulator, run the app, and inspect errors in the Build or Logcat window. Fix the earliest relevant error rather than copying unrelated configuration changes.
Try it yourself
Locate your module’s namespace, launcher activity, main layout, and dependency block. Explain what each one controls.
